Petition to State Election Candidates for Reservoir and Preston rail and road solution and for improved recreation facilities in Reservoir and Northcote

Let our Candidates know we demand funding for Reservoir and Preston rail and road works and improved recreation facilities for our community across the City.

Darebin City Council on behalf of its community has long advocated to government for a better road and rail solution for its community, as well as improved recreation facilities.

There are five key projects we need funding commitment for:

1. We are asking you to show your support for the removal of five level crossings on the Mernda train line between Thornbury and Reservoir stations, specifically at Bell Street, Oakover Road, Murray Road, Cramer Street and High Street, Reservoir *

2. We are also asking you to support the funding of an effective roads package at Reservoir, which we believe will deliver promised improvements to the shopping centre and traffic flow.

3. Council is also asking for a feasibility study to examine extending tram route 11 from its current termination point through to Reservoir Station, which would give many more residents access to rail services and the Reservoir Activity Centre.

4. There also needs to be a significant investment in our existing and future sporting facility infrastructure. The Reservoir Leisure Centre needs a major redevelopment to meet the needs of the Darebin community now and into the future, while the 50-year-old Northcote Aquatic Centre is in a degraded condition and needs replacement.

5. Council also requires funding to build a much-needed four-court stadium at the John Cain Memorial Park. The facility would be used for netball, basketball, futsal and badminton.

*Our petition went live on Tuesday 18 September and on Tuesday 26 September the Government announced the High St Reservoir Level Crossing would be removed with construction starting on 27 September. We welcome this announcement and strongly advocate the other four crossings on the Mernda train line are given the same funding commitment.

Please show your support for these significant infrastructure projects that will significantly improve our community by signing the petition below.
